Highlighting the Real Monarchs
If you live around Salt Lake City, you’ve probably heard of Real Salt Lake. But in the last couple of years there’s been another team causing quite a stir in the area. The Real Monarchs are the new affiliate team of Real Salt Lake, coached by Freddy Juarez. While the team is less than two years old, they’re deep into their second season in the United Soccer League, competing with other affiliate teams like the LA Galaxy II and the Seattle Sounder II.

Finding Home at Rio Tinto Stadium, For Now
Since 2014, the Monarchs have been playing at Rio Tinto Stadium, the home of their major league counterpart, Real Salt Lake. The plan at first was to play there for a season while they built a new stadium in Salt Lake City, but their agreement to build at the Utah State Fairpark fell through in 2015. They’re now considering building their stadium in West Valley City.
Despite that the new team doesn’t have its own stadium, there’s been plenty of support behind the Monarchs since their induction into soccer in 2014. For that reason, they’re confident that they’ll find a stadium to play in soon enough. For now, catch them at Rio Tinto for their home games! Tickets for home games average a little under $11, making it an affordable outing for the whole family.
Got What it Takes to Be a Pro? Join the Real Monarchs for Open Tryouts
In 2015, the Monarchs hosted an open application process for anyone looking to try out for the team. While they only offered 120 tryout spots, they accepted applications from anyone, allowing locals to see if they had what it takes to be a pro. In the spring, look for the team to accept more applications for tryouts!
